STIHL’s new range of 4 series AK System cordless lawnmowers are designed for domestic users with medium to large-sized lawns.
They’re packed full of features to help you get a great quality finish, whilst being easy to operate and simple to manoeuvre around the garden.
The 4 series battery-powered mower range has several models with different sized sturdy and lightweight polymer decks, with each deck size indicated by the model’s name – RMA 443 has a 43cm deck, and the RMA 448 has a 48cm deck.
Powered by a 36 Volt AK System battery, they have the power to drive the blade, as well as providing drive to the rear wheels of some models.
When you’ve finished mowing, you can pop the STIHL AK battery into many of the other tools in the AK System range, such as cordless blowers, grass trimmers, hedge trimmers, and battery chainsaws.

A good mower is made up of several factors. The blade needs to be designed to give sufficient lift to the grass to make sure it stands up straight for a neat cut. For this lift, there needs to be good airflow under the deck of the mower, and enough flow generated so that if you’re collecting your cuttings, they can be directed into the collection box.
On the top of the mower is the battery slot cover and underneath there’s a battery slot to power the battery-powered mower – as well as an additional inactive slot to store another battery.
STIHL 4 series models also have an ECO mode which slows down the blade when full power isn’t needed, conserving battery life. When you reach a patch that needs a higher blade speed, it automatically speeds up. All mowers feature our mono-handlebar which makes it easy to access, remove and replace the grass catcher box. This handlebar has a sturdy feel to it and is also foldable, so when you’ve finished mowing, you can fold it over for space-saving storage.
The STIHL 4 series models have variable speed drive, except for the RMA 443. Our Vario drive mowers allow you to vary the speed between 2 and 4.5 km/h via a lever on the bar.
An exciting mower in the range is the new STIHL RMA 448 RV, STIHL’s first battery mower with a rear roller. Not only does it leave a nice striped finish on the lawn, but it also makes it easy to mow around borders and edges without dropping a rear wheel into the flower bed and scalping the grass. These new AK System mowers have a 4-in-1 mowing function.
You can choose to cut and collect the clippings, cut and drop the clippings, mulch if you want to send the fine clippings back to the lawn or finally, with the exception of the roller model, you can side discharge by opening the side flap and adding the chute which is included with the mower. You don’t need a mulch plug if you want to mulch either, there’s a switch on the mower which blocks the grass chute.
The polymer box has a few key benefits including great air flow to fill the grass box full. All the vents face downwards, so in summer if it’s dusty, it’s all directed towards the ground. On top, there’s a fill indicator which drops when the box is full. The box is easy to open and empty the grass cuttings too; just grab the handles and release the switch to open it up. A polymer box is also simple to clean out and it dries quickly too.
All the STIHL 4 series mowers have a tough polymer deck, so they are light and easily manoeuvrable. The design ensures pivoting at the end of the lawn is easy and requires minimal effort. The mowing height is adjusted with the help of our single-point height adjustment. Just pop your hand under the lever and lift – a spring helps with the weight of the mower so it can be done using one hand.
The mowing height is adjustable from 20-100mm too. To keep the mower’s wheels moving freely, we’ve fitted double ball bearing wheels.
The STIHL RMA 4 series range of cordless mowers are available as a tool only if you already have the AK System batteries, or as a set with the recommended AK battery and AL 101 charger.
Some additional accessories for the cordless mowers include our RM care kits, which include a cleaning spray, cloth and a brush to scrape grass cuttings from the deck.
